Schindler's List is a 1993 American drama film about Oskar Schindler, a German businessman who saved the lives of more than a thousand Polish Jewish refugees during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories. This guy was a womaniser, lover of good wines and a Nazi party worker. He initially employed Jews as workers in his twin factories as they were the cheapest ones to hire in Nazi germany........and somewhere along the line, I guess the brutality of it all made him turn into one of the bravest men in the world in those times. Twice he was jailed, but having been quite a charmer in the higher social circles of Germany, his friends in high places helped him get out. By the time the war ended, he was penniless, having lost all his money bribing the Nazis and German officials to keep them away from his Jew workers. Liam Neeson gives the performance of his lifetime, and Ben Kingseley is great as usual.
And to think that we have the resident joker in Mumbai who loves to say that Hitler is his idol.People of Mumbai, he gives a bad name to all of you.........
How is it possible that six million Jews were killed in those six years and entire Germany stood by and watched? Well, not just watched, but helped Hitler and his goons to do that..........

ReplyDeletei happen to watch schindlers list last night (watched disc 1).one interesting point made by oskar schindler to his wife during her visit(not the exact wording) was that he had tried all soughts of business back home, had failed, knew the reasons of failure but could not stop from happening but today he is a success and the missing element for his success was not luck as suggested by his wife but war.many of the major discoveries and inventions( read CHANGES) were made just before, during or after the wars sphereheaded by a hitler or a stalin.
ReplyDeleteYes Deborishi, that is an interesting point. in fact, this man had failed in all his business ventures before and after the war as well.In 1958, the Israelis officially recognised his efforts, and 6000 of the descendents of schindler's jews live on today. He lies buried in Jerusalem, the only German given this honour.
ReplyDeleteWhat fascinated me was that this man, who was no moralist, certainly not a hero, risked his life, spent all his money to save the people that had been declared villains by his entire country.Everyone took part in the loot.....God and hatred are always connected, and the right man can always sell them to the majority. And the weaker, not in strength necessarily, but in numbers, are always the victims.
watched disc 2.schindler had a heart of gold.wining, womanising immoral i dont think so...it is debatable.but yes at the heights of the holocaust his real personalia was revealed.
